Kicking off February in style, Hippo Campus brought a kaleidoscope of sound and emotion to The Met in Philadelphia. Performing to a packed house, the Minnesota-based indie rockers delivered a sonically rich, visually mesmerizing set that blended their signature dreamy tones with a surprising punch of energy.
The night felt intimate yet cinematic — thanks in part to The Met’s gilded elegance and the band’s immersive lighting design that pulsed in perfect time with the music. From the first beat, fans were fully locked in, singing along, swaying in their seats, and jumping to their feet when the tempo rose. Despite the winter chill outside, the room radiated with warmth and connection.
Whether you were a day-one fan or someone newly introduced to their catalog, Hippo Campus served a well-rounded setlist that spanned fan favorites, newer material, and deeper cuts. Highlights included the lush “Way It Goes,” the anthemic “Bambi,” and the irresistible groove of “Ride or Die.” As someone who has photographed hundreds of shows, I can say with confidence that this one stood out — not for any over-the-top production or spectacle, but for the honest musicianship, tight performances, and the genuine crowd connection.
Though I can’t recall who opened the night, Hippo Campus made sure the focus quickly shifted to them — and kept it there all night long.
